The Pota Blava and the Artichoke, Emblems of El Prat de Llobregat

As you may know, Mucha Masia is located in the municipality of El Prat de Llobregat, an area with a long agricultural and poultry-farming tradition. We always champion local, proximity products grown or raised in the Parc Agrari. And among them, two stand out above the rest: the Pota Blava cockerel and the artichoke, which have become true emblems of El Prat de Llobregat.

To mark the celebration of the 52nd Fira Avícola de la Raça Prat, which showcases these products, we’re taking a look at the features that make them so special. We’re also recommending a few places where you can try them — we’re sure you’ll end up liking them as much as we do.

The Pota Blava

What most characterises the Pota Blava are its blue legs — hence the name (pota means “leg”, blava means “blue” in Catalan). It’s a cockerel breed of medium to large size, with a robust, muscular body, ideal for producing both meat and eggs. As it is free-range and fed with high-quality grain, its meat has an exquisite flavour and texture.

Where to eat Pota Blava

There are many restaurants in town where you can savour Pota Blava. For example, at Artesà, very close to Mucha Masia, you’ll find it served in sauce, in gyozas and in croquettes. But as we say, many restaurants include it on their menus.

Artichoke

The artichoke from El Prat, or Carxofa Prat, stands out from others thanks to the unique flavour it gains from growing in delta soil, which gives it a deliciously salty touch. The harvest season is just starting now and can stretch through to spring. Both the local markets and restaurants in the area are beginning to offer it.

Where to eat Carxofa Prat

The situation is much the same as with the Pota Blava — many local restaurants cook with it. In fact, dishes combining both ingredients are very common. To give one example of a restaurant using it in an innovative way, we recommend L’Osteria del Prat, an establishment that blends Italian cuisine with local tradition and includes crispy artichoke in one of its pasta dishes. In addition, it also offers Pota Blava a la cacciatora.

If you’re having trouble choosing a restaurant, whether for Pota Blava or for artichoke, the best option is to pop over to the Espai Gastronòmic at the Fira Avícola de la Raça Prat, where several local restaurants offer delicious small plates featuring them. From 28 to 30 November at La Ricarda.

Enjoy your meal!
