The secrets of the city in the palm of your hand: El Prat Ocult

Did you know that a plane crashed into some houses in the center of El Prat years ago? That in a corner near our hostel someone tried to kill the village priest? These are some of the secrets that we invite you to discover in this blog article. El Prat Ocult is a project that will get you closer to know details of the city where you are staying. And easy from an App on your Mobile Phone.

El Prat Ocult: walk around the city following the QR codes

Knowing the history of El Prat has never been so easy. The good people of the Arxiu Municipal del Prat, true guardians of the secrets of the city, have prepared a series of tours through an application on your mobile phone. Once you download it you will be able to know the details of the working class past of El Prat, the mark of women in history or the interest of the buildings. Not to mention the agricultural past and also a section dedicated to know the darkest part of our history. In many buildings you will find QR codes that will explain details of our history.

El Prat Nocturn: ghosts, murders and other dark stories

No doubt, the funniest part of these itineraries are those included under the name of El Prat Nocturn. It is fun, curious and even a bit scary. We recommend doing these itineraries at night, to get more into the dynamic. Following the stories they suggest, you will get to know the life of the girl in the well of the Plaça de la Vila or you can say hello to the ghost of Leocadia Rogès, who is said that lives in Torre Muntadas (a building right next to MuchaMasia). You can also get an idea of what leisure was like in our city in the mid-twentieth century or get to know some of the customs of the time.

Through this application you will get the chance to listen to the stories of the actors and actresses of the Teatre Kaddish to discover these spaces around the city.

The agricultural past, the role of women and the workers’ struggle

As we have said, and beyond the previous succulent section, this suggestion of itineraries through the city also covers several visions of the city. The agricultural past of El Prat is essential to understand the idiosyncrasy of our people. Part of this itinerary can be done by bicycle, as it will take us through the part of the territory of agricultural fields. Farmhouses, the carabinieri barracks or the Semàfor are buildings that describe this itinerary.

The truth is that we are in love with this way of getting to know the city. And we still have to know the mark of women in the history of El Prat: the role of working women, sexual freedom, life in the market.

And it is also highly recommended to know the working class past of El Prat. The Barcelona Silk or the Spanish Paper Mill have marked the evolution of the town throughout the twentieth century.

You shouldn’t either miss the itinerary that reviews the origin and history of the main buildings of the city, such as the town hall or the church.

We are delighted to present this project to you. We would like that, if you stay in our rural urban hostel in El Prat de Llobregat, you could get to know in depth the history of our town.
