Literary Barcelona: Charming Bookshops and Cafés for Leisurely Reading
Barcelona is a fantastic city for literature lovers. It is full of both small and large bookshops, as well as cosy cafés where you can read in peace. In this blog post, we recommend a few of them to discover the literary Barcelona.
Documenta
Located at Carrer de Pau Claris 144, Documenta offers a wide selection of books and, with over 50 years of history, is a true emblem of literary Barcelona.

Fahrenheit 451
In the heart of El Born (Carrer de la Ribera 8), you’ll find the bookshop Fahrenheit 451. This small, welcoming shop stands out for the personalised attention its staff provide.

In El Born, a neighbourhood we’ve mentioned before, you’ll also discover many fantastic cafés for reading, such as Café Bobé.
Finestres
Situated at Carrer de la Diputació 249, the Finestres bookshop, split across two locations, is a dream space for any literature lover. It is especially notable for its wide selection of books in their original languages, and it also has a very cosy café.
Laie
Also on Carrer de Pau Claris, at number 85, Laie is another pilgrimage spot for Barcelona readers. Its spacious interior is extremely welcoming, always accompanied by jazz that invites you to drift among its tables and shelves. There is also a café.
Els Quatre Gats
We conclude this blog post with one of the city’s most legendary cafés: Els Quatre Gats, at Carrer de Montsió 3. It is a piece of living history in Barcelona. Between its modernist walls, where Picasso and bohemian writers found inspiration, every table invites you to dream, read, or simply feel the art in the air. Coffee, culture, and creative spirit—all in one.

If you want to discover more bookshops, we recommend checking out another blog post of ours, where we feature four that don’t appear here.
