January, the best month to discover the Llobregat Delta at a leisurely pace

January has become one of the best months to discover the Llobregat Delta, which, like Mucha Masia, is located in El Prat de Llobregat. Without a doubt, January is the best month to discover the Llobregat Delta at a leisurely pace, as visitor numbers are low, and it allows for peaceful walks. In addition, the mild temperatures mean we can enjoy it without suffering from excessive heat or thirst. As you can see, there are nothing but advantages, so keep reading and discover how to make the most of your winter visit to the delta.

Places to visit

Natural river areas: These are located on the right bank of the final stretch of the Llobregat River and boast a great diversity of flora and fauna. Particularly noteworthy are the coastal lagoons of Cal Tet and Ca l’Arana, which are ideal for birdwatching. They can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Although it is located within these natural areas, the flamingo viewpoint deserves a special mention. It is the perfect spot to observe these striking birds, for which the Llobregat Delta is one of their main stopovers during migration.

La Casa del Semàfor: Formerly used to regulate maritime traffic, this seaside building has become an exceptional viewpoint over the surrounding delta landscape and the beach closed to the public, visible from its walkway. It follows the same opening hours as the protected natural areas.

Pineda de Can Camins: A pine forest whose preservation is almost a miracle along the Catalan coast. Grown over the former dunes of El Prat beach, these trees provide shelter for dozens of animal and plant species. It can only be visited on the first Sunday of the month, on a guided tour that begins at 11 a.m.

Birds to spot

Among the birds we can see in winter, we would highlight the kingfisher, which stands out for its vivid colouring; the great cormorant, notable for its large wingspan; and the northern lapwing, whose upright crest on its head is its distinguishing feature.

In keeping with our principles, we would not like to end this text without reminding you that respecting flora and fauna and keeping natural areas clean helps preserve ecological balance, promoting a healthy and sustainable environment for all living beings. Please bear this in mind during your visit to our beloved Llobregat Delta.
