Useful Information for Conscious Travelers: How to Get Around Barcelona Sustainably

Exploring Barcelona without polluting is easier than you might think. If you’re visiting the city, rest assured that to get around sustainably is both simple and rewarding. What’s more, by doing so, you’ll not only be helping the planet — you’ll also connect more deeply with local life. Here are a few ideas to help you move around the city without leaving a carbon footprint.

Walking – the simplest and most authentic way

Barcelona is a city made for walking. Its pedestrian streets, hidden squares and characterful neighbourhoods invite you to take your time and explore at your own pace. If you plan your route well, you’ll barely need to use public transport to see everything you’re interested in. Walking doesn’t pollute, it’s healthy, and it allows you to discover the city’s unique corners.

Public transport – fast and efficient

The metro, buses, trams and trains all work brilliantly, and there are several travel passes available (check out our other blog post where we go over them) that make getting around hassle-free. From El Prat, the town where we’re located, you can reach Barcelona by bus (21, 65, X2), metro (L9 Sud), and train (R2 Sud).

Bikes and scooters – freedom on wheels

Prefer to pedal? The Bicing system (offering both standard and electric bikes) lets you travel quickly and cheaply across the city’s 250+ km of cycle lanes. You can also hire bikes or use your electric scooter. Just remember to wear a helmet and follow the rules.

¿Cars? Better when shared and electric

If you need a vehicle, go for electric options or car-sharing schemes. Organisations like Som Mobilitat provide cleaner shared vehicles. It’s a great way to reduce emissions and avoid traffic, especially within the Low Emission Zone, where more polluting vehicles are restricted.

Sustainable travel isn’t just a trend — it’s a way of looking after the city, its people, and the planet. At Mucha Masia, we believe that every small action matters. And we hope you do too.
