Discover one of the star products of El Prat: the Pota Blava

As you may already know, Mucha Masía is located in El Prat de Llobregat, a town in the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona known for its local product. In this post, we take advantage of the upcoming Fira Avícola de la Raça Prat to introduce one of its star products: the Pota Blava. Keep reading to learn more about its characteristics and find out where you can buy or taste it (for the more adventurous, we’ve also included a recipe to impress this Christmas).

Characteristics of the Pota Blava

What sets the Pota Blava apart is its blue legs, which is where the name comes from (pota means “leg” and blava means “blue” in Catalan). It is a medium to large breed of rooster, with a robust and muscular body, making it ideal for both meat and egg production. Raised freely and fed quality grains, its meat boasts an exquisite flavour and texture.

Where to buy the Pota Blava

As expected, the best places to buy Pota Blava are the local markets. At the Plaza de la Vila market, you’ll find two stalls offering it: Pollería Antonia 9 and Pollería de la Granja Torres 12; at the Remolar market, there are two more: Pollería Ana López 38 and Pollería Lucía 24; and at the Plaza de Blanes market, one stall: Pollería Antonia Martos 48. You can also buy it at El Porcho, a butcher’s shop located at number 24 on Carretera de la Marina.

Where to eat the Pota Blava

There are many restaurants in the city where you can savour the Pota Blava. For example, at L’Artesà, just near Mucha Masía, you’ll find it in sauce, in gyozas, and in croquettes. However, many other restaurants include it on their menus.

If you’re struggling to choose one, the best option is to visit the Espai Gastronòmic at the Fira Avícola de la Raça Prat, where several local restaurants are offering delicious dishes made with Pota Blava.

Recipe

The simplest, yet no less tasty, recipe involves chopping the chicken and frying it in oil with chopped onion and garlic. Then, add crushed tomatoes, white wine, a bay leaf, and season with salt and pepper. Finally, let it simmer for an hour until the chicken is tender. As a side dish, you can serve rice or potatoes.
