The Barcelona Four Best Freshwater Places to Cool Off
As we know that not everyone likes the beach and saltwater, we are dedicating this blog entry to recommending the four best freshwater places to cool off in Barcelona area. Water parks, swimming pools, and natural pools that delight those who cannot stand the salt on their skin after a swim.
Municipal Pools of El Prat
In El Prat, where Mucha Masia is located, we find the pools of the municipal sports centres, the CEM Estruch, the CEM Fondo d’en Peixo, and the CEM Sagnier. Our favourite, and the closest to the hostel, just five minutes’ walk away, is the Fondo d’en Peixo, which opens its roof during summer. Additionally, it has a dry sauna and a grassy area where you can sunbathe.
Bernat Picornell Pools
Renovated for the 1992 Olympic Games, the Bernat Picornell Pools, located in Montjuïc, have become a symbol of Barcelona. Besides offering a refreshing swim, they also provide unbeatable views of the city. You can check the opening hours of the summer pool at this link.
Illa Fantasia
The Illa Fantasia water park, located in Vilassar de Dalt, in the Maresme region, has 22 slides, 3 large pools, and a picnic area. It is just over an hour from Mucha Masia by train (we have included the travel itinerary). The individual entry ticket costs 31 euros.
Poza de las Doncellas
The Poza de las Doncellas (Gorg de les Donzelles in Catalan) is a genuine natural pool in the province of Barcelona. It is located in the village of Riells del Fai, in Vallès Oriental, which can also be reached by public transport (we have also included the travel itinerary). It is the furthest away, yes, but we assure you it is worth it, as long as there has been enough rainfall and there is sufficient water for swimming. After the spring rains, now is a good time to go.
After explaining how to make the most of El Prat beach in a previous post and offering you this list of the four best freshwater places to cool off, we hope none of you miss out on a swim this summer.
