How to get to the mountain of Montserrat
Getting to Montserrat from MuchaMasia is very easy and it is a journey that will allow you to enjoy the scenery of the Baix Llobregat region. You have to take the metro at El Prat Estació and get off at Europa/Fira. There the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat will take you to the foot of Montserrat where you can take the funicular to the summit. As you can see, it’s an entertaining trip that won’t take you more than an hour.
More than a black virgin
Montserrat is much more than the effigy of the Moreneta. This dark-skinned Virgin (Moreneta in Catalan is morenita) has become the patron saint of Catalonia. Legend has it that she was found in a cave (La Santa Cova) and could no longer be moved from the mountain. The Virgin of Montserrat is the excuse to visit the monastery and also the Museum, which houses authentic relics.
