Volkswagen T1 forever

The next Saturday May 12 is the day of the van. And not just any van. In Mataró the SBOM is celebrated, the contest of Volkswagen vans manufactured before 1967. They are the models known as T1, the mythical ones. This meeting will bring together 150 Volkswagen T1 in the port of Mataró that will come from several points of Spain and Europe. And we, who are very fan of these van, participate. MuchaMasia, the rural hostel urbà del Prat, will draw a stay in a double room with breakfast included, among all participants. And we like them to come to our house.

The Volkswagen T1, a way of life

The first Volkswagen Transporter was created from the base in a Beetle as a freight car, the entrepreneur proposed the creation of a commercial freighter model. Transporter 1 was born, better known as T1. Its hallmarks are the large VW logo on the center and the split front windshield. It is what is known as Split Windows. From his initial idea of a cargo vehicle, various variants were created to reach the ones we know used for travel and leisure. It stopped manufacturing in 1967.

And since then they are a classic vehicle and their owners take care of them with great care and affection.

SBOM 5, in Mataró

Next May 12, the port of the city of Mataró will be filled with authentic retro Volkswagen caravans, from classic to tuned. The event is called Split Buses Only Meeting (SBOM 5) and, as its name suggests, it unites Volkswagen Transporter vans of the first T1 model. It is an idea created by Xavi Cervera.

Seldom do we have the opportunity to see so many motor jewels gathered in one place.

In the last edition we were able to enjoy 76 Volkswagen T1, in the largest concentration of vans of this type that exists in Spain. And this year, the registrants reach 150.

Throughout the day there will be various activities related to the T1 van. And there will also be raffles for all attendees.

From MuchaMasia we have been involved with the SBOM 5 and for this, we will raffle a stay in a double room with breakfast in our Hostel Rural Urbà. In addition, you can come to sleep with your Volkswagen T1 and park it in our yard. Hostel Rural Urbà is MuchaMasia, in El Prat de Llobregat, ten minutes from the airport and the center of Barcelona.

And not only if you get the draw. Throughout the year we are open to lodging vans. You can park it in our patio and enjoy the services we have. Shower, kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room, are at your disposal for the price of 5 euros.
