This Summer, Choose the Beach of El Prat de Llobregat

In summer, there are few plans more appealing than spending a day at the beach. In this blog post, we’re going to tell you about the beach of El Prat de Llobregat, the town where Mucha Masia is located. We’re sure that after reading this, you’ll want to choose the beach of El Prat de Llobregat to enjoy your summer too.

The Beach of El Prat de Llobregat

The beach of El Prat de Llobregat is a unique spot on the Barcelona coast. As it’s separated from the town centre by the airport, it remains untouched and free from intrusive development, with exceptionally clean water.

It’s a 5.5-kilometre stretch of sand between the sea and the Can Camins pine forest—an important protected woodland area that is open to visitors on certain dates. Its length allows plenty of space for everyone to feel comfortable, including naturists.

How to Get There

In addition to travelling by private vehicle, you can reach the beach on the PR3 and PR5 buses, which run every 30 minutes. The closest stop to Mucha Masia is in Plaça de la Vila, opposite the town hall. The last return bus from the beach departs at 21:15—don’t miss it!

You can also walk or cycle along the path that runs beside the airport. However, on particularly hot days, we recommend avoiding the peak hours of sunshine, as not all sections of the route are shaded. If you choose this option, you can take a break at the aeroplane viewing point.

The Beach Bars (Chiringuitos)

El Prat beach has two chiringuitos (beach bars) that help people quench their thirst and satisfy their hunger. On some evenings, they also host parties that go on into the early hours.

The CRAM and the Municipal Sailing Centre

The beach is home to the facilities of the CRAM Foundation (Foundation for the Conservation and Recovery of Marine Animals). This organisation rescues all kinds of marine animals, provides medical care and rehabilitation, and returns them to the sea. Yes, even dolphins like the one in the photo—sometimes you can spot them at the beach of El Prat. CRAM also offers various activities and guided visits (check their website for details).

At the north-eastern end of the beach, you’ll also find the Municipal Sailing Centre, which aims to introduce people to sailing and water sports. Want to learn how to surf or sail a catamaran? The centre offers beginner courses to help you get started and improve your skills. Discover the courses on their website.

Tips

Finally, here are a few essential tips to help you enjoy the sun and the beach safely:

  • First, apply sun cream. It might seem obvious, but we always come across people who end up looking like lobsters.
  • Second, follow the lifeguards’ instructions. From June to September, the Lifesaving and Rescue Service is on duty to ensure people’ safety. They display flags to indicate the conditions: green (safe to swim), yellow (caution advised), and red (swimming not allowed).

And lastly, remember to keep the beach clean to help preserve biodiversity and maintain the healthy environment we all want. Taking your rubbish with you is vital, as leaving it behind harms marine life and pollutes the water.
