America’s Cup

On 22nd August, one of the most anticipated events of the year kicks off. Barcelona hosts the America’s Cup, the world’s oldest international sporting trophy (dating back to 1851). Located around the Port Vell and along the beach to the Port Olímpic, the sailing world has made Barcelona its home for what promises to be one of the most intense editions of the America’s Cup in the event’s 174-year history.

LaLiga

Experience the start of the Spanish football league. On the weekend of 24th and 25th August, the city’s two teams, Barça and Espanyol, play their first home matches of the championship. Festa Major de Gràcia

In the middle of the month, the Festa Major de Gràcia begins, which is one of the most anticipated and colourful in the city. The residents decorate up to 23 streets in the neighbourhood and then vote for the best one. Additionally, the programme includes more than 900 activities such as nighttime concerts in the dozens of squares in the neighbourhood.

Terramar Festival

From 24th July to 9th August, Sitges (an hour by train from Barcelona) hosts the Terramar Festival. This year’s edition features artists of the calibre of Ludovico Einaudi, Melendi, and Ana Mena, among others.

Mercat dels Encants

On Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from nine in the morning to eight in the evening, you can drop by the Mercat dels Encants. It is a flea market (a collection of items, new or used, sold at low prices) where you can find real treasures. It started around 1300 and has been and continues to be a meeting and inspiration point for local residents and artists.
