Few celebrations are as fun as the popular festivities of the villages. In July and August, the whole country is filled with festivities in every corner. They are the months par excellence for popular festivities. In addition, we believe that it is one of the best ways to get to know the place you visit: partying with its people. Know the popular culture, the most beautiful corners of the country or that tradition that is only done once a year. July Popular Festivities

When the heat arrives, the popular celebrations take the streets. And from San Juan (June 23) all the proposals invite to live the street atmosphere in the towns and cities. As we are about to finish the month of July, we leave you some proposals so you can enjoy the end of the month.

Festivities of Begues. Begues is a small town just 15 kilometers from El Prat. It is a mountain village, within the Garraf massif, where life is very calm. Ideal for lovers of cycling and hiking. To get to Begues, the easiest is to take the train in El Prat to Gavà and there bus 902 to Begues. Throughout the month of July they carry out many activities, which explode the weekend of July 20. The Festa Major de Begues gathers all the ingredients: popular culture with giants, devils and castellers, traditional gastronomy or peculiarities such as home-made car races. There are many proposals that you can consult in its extensive program of parties.

Festivities De d’Alella. We have already spoken to you on other occasions about the village of Alella, one of the secret corners of the surroundings of Barcelona. Starting on July 27, in Alella they dress up as a “Fiesta Mayor” to honor their patron Sant Feliu. In the extensive program of events, which lasts until August 1 we highlight a curious activity. On Saturday, July 28, they organize a contest of vegetable sculptures with a chainsaw. It is a peculiar tradition that will surely leave you amazed. In addition, every night there are dances with orchestras and DJ sessions. To get to Alella we suggest you take the train to Masnou and there a bus goes up to Alella. Walking will take a half hour.

In August the Festivities do not stop

The month of August is the month of popular festivals par excellence. Almost every town in Spain has its parties. And above all, on the 15th. That date is festive throughout Spain. The shops and many equipments close and it is also the favorite week to make vacations of almost everybody. That’s why the parties do not stop. And in August there are parties worth a lot to know them. In addition to the mythical neighborhoods of Gràcia and Sants, we explain in another article.

Sitges, Festa Major of Sant Bartomeu. Sitges is one of your favorite places. And more in summer. Almost everyone who visits us for a few days, always take advantage of this beautiful coastal town 40 minutes by train from MuchaMasia. In summer, in addition, you can enjoy exceptional beaches and a unique atmosphere in the coastal towns. Good cuisine, good people and good party. The Sitges festivities are celebrated in honor of San Bartolomé or Sant Bartomeu and have two main ingredients: samples of popular culture and fireworks castles from the sea. One of the distinctive elements of Sitges is the Moixiganga, a building of human towers predecessors of the castellers and that enjoys a great tradition in the Sitges area. The Sitges festivities are celebrated from August 21 to 26. And to Sitges you arrive directly by train from El Prat.

Sant Fèlix, The day of castellers par excellence.

The Castellers are one of the most impressive traditions of popular culture in Catalonia. Sometimes we have explained it to you here. If you want to live a unique casteller environment you have to visit Vilafranca del Penedès at the end of August. Around Sant Fèlix, the Vilafranca square becomes the epicenter of the casteller. Up there go the best colles castelleres de Catalunya to show their progress in human towers. The hosts, Castellers de Vilafranca, do not make less than ten floors, and other guests, such as the Colla Vella dels Xiquets de Valls, do not do much less. The atmosphere in the plaza is amazing and you will be amazed to see how each castell lives. To get to Vilafranca, the easiest is to go by train. From El Prat to Sants and there you take another train to Vilafranca del Penedès.
